About the VFW
Dickinson Memorial Post 6378 Dickinson was chartered on March 18, 1946. Our creed since that time has been ‘Honoring the Dead by Helping the Living” and our work continues daily.
Sam Salvato served as commander in 1946, then worked tirelessly to find a post home. When Zero Residori was elected, and served until 1949, the post held raffles and finally auctioned off a calf, which was won, then donated back and later auctioned off in front of Rodeo Cafe…..that money was used to purchase a lot on Video Street from Ms. Liggio, and Mr. Walter Hall granted the post a loan to build their first home. George Deats was our contractor and that post served our needs until a new home was later built on Hwy 3 where it remains today. That original building continued in service with the Knights of Columbus until sadly, that building burned to the ground.
For years to come, our post will forever be grateful to men like Zero Residori, comrades Bill Brady, Betty Piazza, Fred L Menotti, Opal Wiggins, J.W. Edge, Luella Allen and Sam Salvato for doing whatever they could to keep the post functioning and chartered. We have had great men and women represent this post, and not one of them will ever be forgotten for their dedication. Today, the largest Post in District 16, and probably the most active of area posts, we still follow our creed of “Honoring the Dead by Helping the Living”.
